Elke Haege Thorvaldson is an award winning landscape architect, consulting arborist and horticulturist who has a passion for sustainable improvements of natural systems, especially soils.

Developing her experience over the past 26 + years Elke has been running her own practice since 2009.

Elke has 26+ years as a landscape architect and established her practice in 2009. Elke was awarded a Fellowship by her industry peers in 2022 by The Australian Institute of Landscape Architects for her contributions to the industry to date.

Elke is an AQF Level 5 Consulting Arborist.

Elke, together with soil scientist Simon Leake, SESL Australia published a 2 x award winning publications in 2014, 2018 & 2nd Edition in 2024 on landscape soils titled: “Soils for Landscape development: Selection, Specification and Validation”, CSIRO Publishing. 

Elke, together with Simon Leake, SESL Soil Scientist, developed The Soil Volume Simulator (SVS) to design soil volumes for trees in urban situations, allowing for design considerations for tree stunting, tree replacement lifespan, shared tree root zones, underground soil connections, and surface design.
