Combining trees and shade sails for car parks

Hot temperatures and relief from rain are on our minds at the moment.

This project in Western Sydney (Penrith LGA), completed over 6 years ago is an example of combatting the Heat Island Effect, reducing exposure and harvesting rain for trees.

Car park shade was important, as was shade sails and tree canopy cover. We combined them both! And used the shade sails for watering.

Here are photos after 2 years growth.

Features: connected soil zones, passive watering, protection for tree establishment, robust tree species selection, recycling of nutrients (organic matter) back to the tree root growing zone, and lighting incorporated onto the structure to reduce material use.

Stay tuned for a new and improved version, soon to be rolled out in Western Sydney.
